So what’s the difference between handicapped and disabled? I’m confused. Ok I know some people would prefer on word over the other, and that’s their choice. I even have a preference. My point is what is the difference when one uses them together, kind of like they don’t mean the same thing. For example, I have been riding the Metro Link to work this summer (a local transit system in my area) and I have heard more than one driver say, “And please yield seats to the handicapped and the disabled.” The handicapped and the disabled? Which category do I fall into? Is one group worse off than another? Hmmmm…looks like bi-state needs some disability awareness training! All I can do is smile! :)

I used to work for a wheelchair lift manufacturer, and I don't even mind the disabled/handicapped thing anymore. The ones I can't stand are "other-abled" or "differently-abled" and the like.
Eventually, people need to just realize that no matter what words you use for something, the reality is the same. We need to worry more about making reality a better place, rather than trying to find more flowery ways of talking about the hard aspects of it. Right?
LOL OH MY GOODNESS Don't even try to tell them it's supposed to be People With Disabilities! Maybe Metro needs to be referred as incompetent and leave it at that.
