Memorial Day 2007

So this past weekend was Memorial Day. Memorial Day to me is like the unofficial start of the summer. The swimming pool opens, we get to eat lots of barbeque, great sales at the mall and a day off of work. YES!!!! I guess this year Memorial Day was a little more special this year, yeah I still thought about the barbeque and not having to go to work, but I also thought a lot about the troops and their families. Especially, the family and friends of the soldiers that died defending our country. May God bless them!

This Memorial Day weekend was great for me this year. On Sunday, I got to see some of my family that I hadn’t seen in a while since I’ve been home from school. We had my father’s side over for a barbeque. It rained a little but that didn’t stop us from barbequing and having a good time. We had a pretty packed house with lots of people inside and lots outside. I stayed in the house mostly this year because the rain made the temperature drop a bit, and I am not a fan of cold weather! Anyway some of the food that was on the menu was barbeque hot dogs, chicken breast, hamburgers, ribs, turkey legs, pork steaks, chicken, mostaccioli, salad, green beans, lasagna, potato salad, spaghetti, carrot cake, chocolate cake, cupcakes, punch, soda, water, and alcohol. Yes, I’m getting hungry just typing this.

Then on Monday I went to my cousin Shika’s apartment and had some more barbeque. Yes, it was good. I got to see some of my other cousin’s from my mom’s side, and some of their new babies. It was fun! Well, maybe now I’ll go and warm up some of that good ole’ left over barbeque.

Brian McKnight on Sister Sister

Ok so I have been watching Sister Sister lately, (I have Tivo) and it seems like I have seen Brian McKnight on there a lot. And each time it seems like he played a different character. So I know stars make appearances on some sitcoms every now and then, but as a different character each time. Come on now was he desperate; did he really need the money? I’m really confused, I really like Brian McKnight and his music, but I don’t like it when he’s desperate. So I did a Google search and it took me to http://www.imdb.com/ and I found that he was on 3 episodes and he played Clarence in the Before There Was Hip Hop episode and he played Keith twice in Greek to Me, and The Grass is Always Finer episode. These episodes were all filmed in 1998-1999. I don’t know maybe he was struggling during this time. Never the less he’s still awesome and so is the show!

Handicapped or Disabled?

So what’s the difference between handicapped and disabled? I’m confused. Ok I know some people would prefer on word over the other, and that’s their choice. I even have a preference. My point is what is the difference when one uses them together, kind of like they don’t mean the same thing. For example, I have been riding the Metro Link to work this summer (a local transit system in my area) and I have heard more than one driver say, “And please yield seats to the handicapped and the disabled.” The handicapped and the disabled? Which category do I fall into? Is one group worse off than another? Hmmmm…looks like bi-state needs some disability awareness training! All I can do is smile! :)
